Why “beyond sustainable” and not just sustainable?
Sustainable without being regenerative
It's like tolerating a foreign culture without respecting it.
We became aware of this when we spent an extended period of time in one of the world's most important coffee-growing regions – the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia.
This mountain range lies in the equatorial rainforest zone and is part of the "green lung" of our planet. It is therefore severely affected by climate change . The coffee growers we met on site reported, among other things, about... serious changes the length and intensity of the rainy season. This affects both the coffee harvest and the flora and fauna. At the same time, the region has been impacted by a Decades of civil war turned the area into a scene of expropriation and deforestation.
To our surprise, instead of unhappy people, we found on site
a motivated and future-oriented society .
It is not only sustainable, but also seeks long-term, regenerative solutions to its problems. For example, the coffee growers have been cultivating organically since the 1980s (even before there was an organic label) and operate... Fair trade , without relying solely on the Fairtrade label. As Protectors of the Mountain They are also constructing forest corridors at their own expense. Endangered animal species saved .
We are joining this community and supporting them in their regenerative measures.
Part of our philosophy is to be "beyond sustainable",
not just spectators, but active participants in the solutions to be there in person.
Why do we use innovation as a tool?
“Beyond sustainable” means for us social, economic and natural resources to regenerate at the coffee's source. In doing so, we focus not only on preservation, but also on rebuilding.
